Our present staffing levels are between 16 – 22 personnel for fire/rescue emergency operations 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  A general rule of staffing for firefighters working the 24 hours shifts is that they work an average of 56 hours a week to ensure maximum coverage in a cost effective manner.  70 of our 73 sworn fire personnel are assigned to 24 hour shifts for immediate emergency response.  That equates to over 96% of our sworn personnel working in the field 24/7 to provide fire/rescue/EMS services to our customers.  In addition to having fire/rescue/EMS responsibilities, the remaining 3 sworn personnel are assigned to a combination of administrative, command, organizational, and supervisory functions on a 40 per week hour basis, however, they also are expected to work 24 hour shifts on occasion to cover for staff leaves of absence and emergency situations.  There are also three civilian employees, 1 – confidential secretary, 1 -part-time secretary and 1 – mechanic/maintenance position.
