Alderpersons are the individual members of the Common Council.  Alderpersons are generally elected from aldermanic districts.  The Common Council is made up of “alderpersons” and the Mayor.  In contrast to other city officers, the Wisconsin Statutes does provide a list of duties for alderpersons.  Individual alderpersons are not empowered to act on behalf of the city, and can only exercise power when a quorum of the council is present.

Organizational Review and Citizen Survey Report Final Report

In 2011, the Center for Political Science and Public Policy Research contracted with the City of Sheboygan to conduct a two phase study of the city’s organizational structure and selected operating practices. Phase 1 of this project includes an evaluation of the organizational structure of the city as well as recommendations for improvements to the structure to allow Sheboygan to run more efficiently while still providing quality services to its residents and visitors. Phase 2 of this project involves a citizen satisfaction survey aimed at gaining feedback on city services as well as measuring residents’ opinions of potential changes to service delivery and city operations.
